A cool start to the growing season and the small crop that was caused by very cold temperatures in October 2002 (just after the 2002 harvest was completed) were somewhat offsetting and coupled with a warm growing season led to a harvest that was a few days ahead of typical. The small crop size (in some cases below 1 ton per acre) resulted in very concentrated wines that have huge structure and elegance. An excellent vintage to age. The name Terra Blanca, Latin for white earth, is named for the high calcium carbonate content that whitens soils of our Red Mountain vineyard and helps produce the incredible depth and structure in the grapes. The first grapes were harvested from our estate vineyard in 1997
